As I run around the house like a crazed person tidy up the house in preparation for my in-laws’ visit this weekend, I’m reminded I want to share with you a tip for cleaning glass surfaces.

For years I’ve hated to clean windows and mirrors because it always took me several attempts to get them streak-free. I’ve purchased special cleaning products; I’ve tried vinegar; I’ve tried ammonia; I’ve used newspaper — nothing has worked. As it has many times before, my frustration drove me to an Internet search. This time though, something new from a forum appeared in my results.

Corn starch and water.

That’s it.

Just mix several tablespoons of corn starch in a spray bottle with water and you are good to go. I gave it a try and lemme tell ya: It. Works. Wonders.

Things to keep in mind:

  • It will start to get funky after several weeks, so don’t make too much of it at a time.
  • Give it a good shake each time you use it.
  • If you are tackling really greasy marks, you will have to use a little more muscle; but, every-day dirt and dust, build-up, toothpaste splatters, etc. come off easily and in one cleaning.

Give it a try and let me know what you think.

I will have to give this recipe a try! Thanks for sharing! I have always used old cut up sheets and that works pretty good. But, I love the home made cleaning solution!
